It’s the third Friday of the month and that means it’s Open House time at Third Degree Glass Factory in St. Louis. The fun is from 6-10 p.m. and it’s free.
Watch glassblowers take the heat create cool glass art and then get “hands on” glass and make something yourself.
In addition to watching the demos, you can enjoy live music and discover art by local artists.
Here’s what else is on tap tonight (from the Glass Factory’s website):
Frostbite Gourmet Ice Cream. Mmmm. Free tastes begin at 6 p.m. Indulge and enjoy their delicious ice cream made the old-fashioned way with local ingredients and honey. Lactose-free. Vanilla, cinnamon, strawberry and a surprise flavor…maybe candied bacon?
Dinner@Third Friday: Summer Lite dining with My Chef Heidi’s tapas-style small plates at small prices. Menu items range from $2 – $8 each. August’s menu: Ceasar Salad, Cheese Quesadilla with Homemade Salsa, Southwestern Chicken Skewer with Chipotle Mayo, Black Bean & Corn Salad, Watermelon, and Sweet Treat. No reservations needed. Eat in the gallery or al fresco in the courtyard.

Third Friday tradition: Bring your fave regular-sized wine bottle – NO LABELS – and we’ll turn it into a glass platter for $10. Over-sized wine bottles are more. $20. Note: Must be age 10 and up for paperweights and glass beads. Glass projects and glass platters must be picked up the following week, Tues. – Sat., 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.
6:45 p.m. Live at Third Degree…Opera! Union Avenue Opera performers treat us to a mini-preview of Heggie’s Dead Man Walking, performed for the first time in Missouri. An opera that the Associated Press regards as “the most compelling new American opera in decades.” This opera brings to stage the story of Sister Helen Prejean as she takes on the role of spiritual advisor to Joseph de Rocher, an inmate on Louisiana’s death row.
8 p.m. Fox Creek Band plays some mean, lean foot stompin’ blue grass.
Fire Spinning. Fire Technicians Performance Troupe top off the night. Beginning at the magic hour of sun down they’ll spin, dance, and breathe the hot stuff through 9:45 p.m.
Third Degree Glass Factory is located at 5200 Delmar Blvd in St. Louis.
