Soulard Mardi Gras‘ famous illuminated nighttime parade happens Tuesday and it’s FREE!
The Lumiere Place Light Up the Night Fat Tuesday Parade begins at 7 p.m. with marvelous floats coming down Washington Avenue.
St. Louis’ only nighttime parade, a colorful, fun-filled nighttime parade that winds through downtown St. Louis is entering its 11the year.
The Parade Steps off at 7 p.m. at the corner of Washington and Broadway and proceeds west to 14th Street.
The event wraps up weeks of events, most of them free, that are part of Soulard Mardi Gras.
There’s still time to see eagles in their natural habitat here in the St. Louis area before spring sends them north.
Bald Eagle Days at Pere Marquette State Park in Grafton, Ill. celebrates our national bird in February, the time the eagles travel south to areas where winter temperatures don’t freeze the rivers. The reason: the fish they can get from the free-flowing waters. The remaining dates for the eagle program this month are February 9, 10, 13, 16, 19, 25 and 27.
Naturalist Scott Isringhausen presents a great eagle program and leads free eagle tours where you can see the birds in their natural habitat.
The event is FREE but reservations are required.
Pere Marquette State Park is along the Great River Road north of Alton, Illinois not far from St. Louis.
From Saturday until Monday, May 27, kids can blast off withThe Magic School Bus Kick Up a Storm at the Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum.
The exhibit features three interactive and hands-on activities, in which parents and children can learn about different types of weather and weather prediction.They get an in-depth and behind the scenes look at scientific weather measurements, weather tools, maps, graphs and the various natural indicators we can use to understand and predict weather patterns.
Admission is included with admission to the Magic House ($9.50 for everyone age 1 and over).
The Magic House is located at 516 S. Kirkwood Road, St. Louis.

Soulard Mardi Gras continues this weekend with the Mardi Gras Wine, Beer & Whiskey Taste today and the Crystal Cajun Cook-Off on Saturday. Tickets are $35 for each.

The holidays are hardly out of view and it’s time for Soulard Mardi Gras with more than 15 events between now and Fat Tuesday–and many of them are FREE!
Fifth Third Bank presents SSM Cardinal Glennon Family Winter Carnival Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013. The fun takes place in Soulard Market Park at 8th and Lafayette beginning at 11 a.m. and ending with a Children’s Parade at 4 p.m. The event is FREE and open to the public.
In the big tent kids can:
- Decorate a mask
- Decorate a crown
- Make beads
- Decorate capes for a king or a queen
- Get their face painted
- Paint on the art wall create a piece of art
- Play interactive games
Children and their parents can get safety tips at the SSM Cardinal Glennon Safety Corner.
The Rally Squirrel and Fred Bird will put in appearances and the Muny Kids, Bobaloo and others will perform.
At 4 p.m., the children the SSM Cardinal Glennon Grand Marshall will lead the children through the streets of Soulard to show off their new costumes in the Children’s Parade.Food and beverage will be available on site.

The eagles have returned!
January used to be a dreary month but in recent years the eagles have landed in the St. Louis area to turn the month into something special.
Through approximately the end of February, our national bird will be visiting as frozen rivers further north cause them to come south to our area to find food.
The Riverlands Eagle Festival at the Audubon Center at Riverlands on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013 kicks off several weeks of FREE eagle watching activities.
The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. so you can plan to come early and stay late. It’s located at 301 Riverlands Way in West Alton, MO.
Here’s what’s happening at the festival on Saturday:
Dress for the conditions. If it’s cold and wet, so much the better–eagles love that kind of weather.

Mark your calendar now for the next Family Day at the World Chess Hall of Fame.
It will be held Jan. 5 at the HOF located at 4652 Maryland in St. Louis.
Family Days at the World Chess Hall of Fame are popular events that include a special “kids-eye” tour of the WCHOF galleries and a craft project exploring the connection between chess, art and current exhibitions.
The World Chess Hall of Fame is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Family Day sessions begin at 11 a.m. and 1 and 3:00 p.m on the first Saturday of the month. The tour and project last approximately one hour. The craft is recommended for ages 5-12, but children of all ages may attend.

Millions of lights are twinkling at Santa’s Magical Kingdom at Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park next to Six Flags Amusement Park in
Eureka.
The Christmas holiday light display also features custom lighting animation. Santa’s Magical Kingdom is open daily until Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013.

The “Pet-Acular” Holiday Bazaar returns this weekend to Purina Farms in Gray Summit, MO this weekend. Hours are 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 8 and Sun., Dec. 9.
The event includes free photos with Santa, shopping for unique gifts, live entertainment and festive food. It is held in the Purina Farms Visitors Center.
Purina Farms hosts competitive shows and trials as well as fun and educational family-friendly activities and exhibits. It is located in Gray Summit, a short ride from St. Louis.
