The 11-day second annual St. Louis Bluesweek Festival continues this week in St. Louis.
- Harp Workshop, 8 p.m. (doors open at 7 p.m.) Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011 at Off Broadway at Lemp and Broadway. Fee: $8. Adam Andrews of the Bottoms Up Blues Gang hosts the workshop that will also feature Sandy Weltman, Eric McSpadden, and Rockin Jake . They will teach their own unique style of playing the harmonica. An Allstar Jam Session follows the workshop. Participants should bring their own harps to get the most out of the night.
- Guitar Workshop, 7-9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 2 at BB’s Jazz, Blues, and Soups. Fee: $10. Rich McDonough, Tom Hall, Tom Maloney, and Mike Newman will give lessons in slide, blues rock, and Americana blues.
The “Blues Cruise” is set to “sail” through the streets of Soulard making its way between 10 legendary venues where visitors can catch performances by some of the best Blues bands in the country. Purchase a wristband ($10 each per night) at any participating club and for access to the shuttles and all the shows for one low price. The “cruise” is from 9 p.m.-1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.
The second annual Saint Louis Bluesweek Awards will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 4 at Blueberry Hill in the Delmar Loop. The event is free to attend. Honoree: Chuck Berry who will receive the St. Louis Blues Society Life Time Achievement Award. Other St. Louis Blues legends will receive awards in various categories.
