Get ready to rock! The Big Muddy Blues Festival is around the corner.
In its 16th year, the Festival brings 30 bands on three stages to Laclede’s Landing from 1-11 p.m., Sept. 3-4.
According to the Landing’s website: “This year’s main stage acts are a tribute to the varied sounds and styles that Blues music continues to pervade and influence. From the California rockabily/boogie of Big Sandy and His Fly-Rite Boys to the spirted hyms of the Psalms Gospel Quartet, from the passionate and throaty soul singing of Cee Cee James to the classic Blues/Rock mix of Kim Wilson (of the famed Fabulous Thunderbirds), the 2011 edition of Big Muddy Blues Festival offers a distinctly different flavor for each performance.”
Sonny Landreth closes out the festival at 9 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4. “ The website says, “Landreth is known for his dynamic slide guitar style and is a highly regarded songwriter, having collaborated with Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler, Jimmy Buffett and others.”
Sets from 73-year old Bluesman Roy Gaines are on tap at 9 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 3. Gaines last year released the acclaimed Tuxedo Blues.
Ronnie Baker Brooks, son of the Lonnie Brooks and a talented Blues musician in his own right, performs at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4.
