Listeners can hear protest music from the tumultuous year of 1968 at an event at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 11, 2013, in the Lee Auditorium of the Missouri History Museum.
The Rough Shop band will play some of that music and recordings will provide more. John Wendland, a band member and disk jockey on KDHX, will comment.
The museum is located at Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue in Forest Park.
Students at Hazelwood East High School will pay tribute to three African-American leaders in a program featuring the written and spoken work, music and art at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at the Missouri History Museum. They are the civil rights leader, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.; author Langston Hughes and prominent choir director Rollo Dilworth.
The event will be in the 1 West Gallery.
The museum is located at Lindell Boulevard and DeBaliviere Avenue in Forest Park.
The series feature sizzling sounds of some of the most diverse and popular musical acts in the region at its FREE concerts at noon every Thursday during June and July at the Old Post Office Plaza (between Eighth and Ninth Streets on Locust)
Here’s the lineup so you can mark your calendar early:
June 2: Park Avenue Jazz – Featuring John Farrar, the band performs traditional jazz with rich guitar work.*
June 9: Swing Set – Performs jazz from the 1930s and ’40s. Jump, jive, and wail with swing, jump, ballads, Latin, polkas, and waltzes.
June 16: Dubtronix – Fronted by veteran KDHX programmer DJ Ranx, Dubtronix is a heavy reggae dub band that glides from smooth to spirited, sometimes in the space of a single song.
June 23, Farshid Etniko – Exotic music featuring Middle Eastern instruments and Latin beats.
June 30, BoogieFoot. Features music with an R&B, funk, and classic rock kick.
July 7, Magnolia Summer –A roots-rock band with a similar feel Wilco and Son Volt. They’ve shared the stage with greats like Matthew Sweet, The Counting Crows, Cracker, and Robyn Hitchcock.
July 14, Half Knots, Indie-rock music combining dulcimer, guitar, piano, and strings.
July 21, Alvin Jett & Phat Noiz – With a unique style of original music and blues, R&B, and rock standards.
July 28, Sweet & Low – A guitar duo performing standards and pop favorites.

The NOT SO QUIET! Concert Series is made possible by a grant from the Downtown Community Improvement District
The Town and Country Symphony Orchestra will perform a FREE holiday concert at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 23 at The Principia, 13201 Clayton Road, in Town and Country.
The orchestra appears in a variety of community locations including area universities and schools, churches, plazas and malls, retirement centers and parks performing in a variety of musical styles — classical, pops, Christmas pops, operettas, and oratorios. Music Director and Conductor: David Lowell Peek.
The concert will feature Angela Moore, soloist and Sarah Grant, harp.

The final FREE program in the Historic Holiday Noon Concert Series takes place St. Louis’ Old Courthouse at noon, Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012.
Traditional holiday music will echo under the rotunda of the Old Courthouse, which will be beautifully adorned with authentic Victorian decorations. Bring a lunch to enjoy during the performance.
St. Peter School Choir will perform at this week’s concert.
St. Louis Irish Arts will present the Dec. 19 concert.
The Old Courthouse, located in downtown St. Louis, is part of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial (Gateway Arch) administered by the National Park Service.

Take a ride over to nearby Kimmswick today for Christmas in Kimmswick where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the season. The event is slated from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, 2012.
Shops will be decked out for the holiday, carolers will be strolling the streets, and horse drawn carraige rides will carry you back to a time gone by.
The event repeats from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.in Kimmswick where you can enjoy the sights and sounds of the season.
Kimmswick, MO is a short drive from St. Louis.
The University of Missouri-St. Louis Department of Music will present “Jazz for the Holidays,” a FREE concert at the Blanche M. Touhill Performing Arts Center at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012.
The University says the event has become one of the most anticipated concerts of the holiday season. It features the combined sound of UMSL’s Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Jim Widner; Vocal Point, conducted by Dr. Jim Henry; and the University Orchestra, conducted by Robert C. Howard.
The concert features such holiday classics as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” “The Christmas Song,” “Jingle Bells” and selections from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” in addition to other holiday favorites.
The concert is free and open to the public. Tickets are not required.
