The Mid-County branch of the St. Louis County Library will show “The Muppets” at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 23, 2012. The branch is at 7821 Maryland Avenue, Clayton.
The 2011 movie is about the Muppets reuniting to save their old theater from a greedy oil tycoon.
Catch a mid-week break in downtown St. Louis this week with Wednesday Night Out.
Downtown St. Louis Community Improvement District sponsors Wednesday Night Out weekly this summer.
Each Wednesday from 4-7 p.m. several downtown establishments celebrate happy hour with discounted beer, wine, specialty drinks and shots and half-price appetizers.
Funky Butt Brass Band performs this week at The Saint Louis Zoo’s popular Jungle Boogie Friday Night Concert Series. The series continues through Aug. 31.
The free concerts are at 5 p.m. in the center of the zoo.
Jungle Boogie is a great way to kick off the weekend. Pack a picnic dinner and spend some time with the kids.
Visitors can enjoy extended hours at the zoo with “North Star Summer Zoo Weekends.”
The zoo says you can “Splish splash” with the stingrays, “cha-cha” with the cheetahs, “salsa” with the sea lions or “two-step” with the tigers at Jungle Boogie.
The zoo is open until 7 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays through Sept.

The Rockhouse Ramblers, honky-tonk music and classic country swing band performs Wednesday at The Missouri Botanical Garden‘s 19th annual Whitaker Music Festival.
The concert is free.
The Whitaker Music Festival series features music under the stars on Wednesdays through July 25.
Performances begin at 7:30 p.m. Free concert admission begins at 5 p.m. and last entry is at 9 p.m. For more information, visit the Garden’s website.
Concert-goers may bring lawn chairs or blankets and are allowed to picnic on Garden grounds on nights of the concerts only. No barbecue grills, fireworks, sparklers or pets re allowed. Food is available for purchase on site.
Whitaker Music Festival concerts are held on the lawn of the open-air Cohen Amphitheater, west of the Climatron® dome.
The 2012 performer lineup includes:
- June 27 – Hamiet Bluiett, jazz legend and champion of the baritone saxophone.
- July 4 – Air National Guard Band of the Central United States – military tradition classics and jazz, big band and rock.
- July 11 – Ryan Spearman Band, singer, songwriter and folk music multi-instrumentalist.
- July 18 – Teresa Jenee, soulful, introspective vocalist and pianist.
- July 25 – Aaron Kamm and the One Drops, roots reggae and Mississippi River blues.
The Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden also remains open late until 7 p.m. on concert evenings, with free admission after 5 p.m. Lantern Festival exhibits will not be lit during Whitaker Music Festival evenings.
The Missouri Botanical Garden is located at 4344 Shaw Blvd. An additional concert entry site will be open on Tower Grove Avenue and Magnolia located on the south end of the Garden.
