Free: Family Days at the World Chess Hall of Fame In St. Louis

The entire family can learn about the wonders of chess at Family Day at the World Chess Hall of Fame in St. Louis on Saturday, June 2.

Docents will lead a visit to the Hall’s galleries for a special kids-eye-view of this cultural institution’s unique exhibitions. The finale is a  hands-on craft project tied to the exhibitions. The activities are designed for children ages 5-12.

Free: Amazing Animal Encounters At World Bird Sanctuary

From now through Labor Day, you can experience “Amazing Animal Encounters” at the World Bird Sanctuary in the St. Louis area.

The programs are held at 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturdays and at 1:30 p.m. on Sundays.
Admission and parking are free.  Reservations are not necessary.
World Bird Sanctuary naturalists will give you a fun look at snakes, parrots, birds and mammals in an environmental education program that will show you what you can do to help them survive.

The WBS is located at 125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road in Valley Park, Mo.

Looking Ahead: Hermann Area Vintners Plan Berries & BarBQ Wine Trail In July

Hermann area vintners will hold the Berries & BarBQ Wine Trail July 28 and 29. Visitors can sample food and wine pairings at seven stops on the Hermann Wine Trail winding for 20 scenic miles between Hermann and New Haven, MO along the Missouri River. Hermann is an hour and a half drive from St. Louis.

Here are the participating wineries and the wines/foods they will be offering:

• Adam Puchta Winery — Heritage BarBQ, paired with Riefenstahler


• Bias Winery — Grilled Chicken and Pineapple Kabobs, paired with Strawberry Fruit Smoothie

• Dierberg Star Lane — Grilled Pork Chop with Gooseberry-Sage Sauce, paired with Star Lane
Sauvignon Blanc

• Hermannhof Winery — Caribbean-Spiced Grilled Pineapple with Raspberry-Mango Chutney,
paired with Vignoles

• OakGlenn Winery — Graped Brisket, paired with Chardonel

• Röbller Winery — Berry Glazed Pork Kabobs, paired with St. Vincent Rosé

• Stone Hill Winery — Barbecued Chicken, paired with Sangria

Wine Trail hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.Sunday. The trails are held rain or shine. Tickets are $30 per person and include a souvenir wine glass. Participants also may enter a drawing for a one-night stay at a Hermann bed and breakfast, plus a $30 gift certificate from each winery.

Held each year the last full weekend of July, Berries & BarBQ Wine Trail is one of five annual Wine Trail events. Holiday Fare Wine Trail is the third weekend of November, Say Cheese Wine Trail is the second weekend of December, Chocolate Wine Trail is the third weekend of February, and the Wild Card Wine Trail is the first weekend of May.

Free: Honey Vox At Chesterfield Concert Series Saturday Night

Honey Vox, a collection of musicians that have accompanied many local and national acts such as Chuck Berry, Oliver Sain and Ike Turner, will perform at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 2 at the Chesterfield Concert Series. 

The concerts are held at the City Park Amphitheater.

Honey Vox performs hip-hop, R&B, pop, funk, rock, jazz, country and Motown.

Fixed seating as well as lawn seating is available at the concert. Concessions will be sold but you can bring your own food and beverages. However, no glass bottles are allowed.

Olivette will hold its free Party In The Park event on June 15 at Stacy Park.

Kids can enjoy free activities including pony rides and inflatable activities from 5-7 p.m.
