Free: Meramec Valley Library Branch Presents Movie Beastly At 6 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, In Program For Teens

Beastly

The Meramec Valley branch of the St. Louis County Library at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 14, 2011, will present Beastly in a movie program for teenagers. The library is at 625 New Smizer Mill Road in the Fenton City Hall complex.

Beastly is a modern retelling of the classic fable Beauty and the Beast; a New York teen is transformed into a monster to find true love.

The library will provide pizza and soft drinks.

The library requires viewers to register in advance. They may do so via the Internet or by calling 314-994-3300.

Free: Weber Branch Library To Show Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs At 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10

 

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs

The Weber Road branch of the St. Louis County Library will show the movie Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs at 3 p.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2011.

A children’s book inspired the film, which  focuses on a town where food falls from the sky like rain.

The branch is at 4444 Weber Road, on the south side of Weber Road between Union Road and Gravois Road, in south St. Louis County.

Free: Pat Liston To Perform At 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, At Plaza At 501, Ferguson

Singer Pat Liston will perform at 7 p.m. Oct. 14, 2011, at the Plaza at 501. It is at 501 Florissant Road at Suburban Avenue, Ferguson.

The city says people should bring a lawn chair or sit at one a picnic tables. The event includes a food booth. The city allows coolers, but no glass.

Free: Barnes-Jewish Offers Flu Shots At Various Locations in St. Louis Area

Barnes-Jewish Hospital is continuing to offer free flu shots to the public at various locations in the community.

While the shots are no longer offered at the hospital locaction, you may still be able to get on at other locations including the Pageant, Barnes-Jewish West County Hospital Medical Office Building 2, New Northside Baptist Church Family Life Center, the St. Patrick’s Center, Eden Seminary, Shalom City of Peace, the Urban League in Jennings, Beyond Housing St. Vincent Park, St. Louis connect Care, St. John’s A.M.E.  Church St. Charles, Shalom City of Peach Berkley, Antioch Baptist Church, Emerson Family YMCA, Christ Our Redeemer A.M.E. Coupon Thursday Is Back At St. Louis Shop N Save Stores--Save $10 On A $50 Purchase

With grocery prices climbing, you need all the help you can get.

Shop N Save is bringing back “Coupon Thursday” this week. That means you can save $10 on a $50 purchase.  And, despite the name, no coupon is needed. The deal is good Thursday, Oct. 13 only.

Play it right and you not only get $10 off your purchase but you can also get a discount on gas at Shop N Save stores with gas stations.  Depending on how much you spend, you’ll get a discount on gas–3 cents if you spend $10-$49.99; 6 cents if you spend $50- and 9  cents when you spend over $100 for a maximum of 20 gallons.

Fine print: Certain items like fresh milk, pharmacy, beer, wine, spirits and a bunch of other non-food items are excluded. See the ad in the store, newspaper or online for details. Free: Docent-Led Tours of Laumeier Sculpture Park

Laumeier County Park, 12580 Rott Road in Sunset Hills, offers free tours a couple of times a month from May to October.

The last tour of the season is Sunday, Oct. 16.

The theme of the tour is “Ecology: Reuse, Recycle and Biodegrade.”

Meet at 2 p.m. at the Museum Shop to join the tour.

Free: Fall Harvest Festival, Open House At Washington State Park

Washington State Park’s second annual Fall Harvest Festival will be held Saturday (Oct. 15, 2011). The park is near De Soto.

The event includes a craft fair, an open house for public input and a concert. All events are free and open to the public.

The craft fair, sponsored by local Missouri artisans, crafters and hobbyists runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Big River day-use shelter.  Homemade food and crafts will be available for purchase with many artisans demonstrating their crafts.

Also on tap: a pumpkin painting contest, free hayride, live folk music and other activities.

Visitors can meet with park staff on a one-on-one basis at the open house to learn what is new and coming in the future at the Park.  Suggestions for future projects are encouraged.

“Wildheart” will peform at 7:30 p.m. at the campground amphitheater. The concert is funded by a grant from the Missouri Arts Council.

Visitors should park at the swimming pool parking lot and take the free shuttle.

Free: Build And Grow Workshop For Kids At Lowe's On Saturday

Kids can make-and-take a free wooden project a couple of times a month at Lowe’s.

Participants in the free Build & Grow workshops receive a free apron, goggles, a project-themed patch and a certificate of merit for completing the project. The projects are recommended for children in grades 1 through 5.

The Oct. 16 project is a Halloween “monster truck” with a flashing light and glow-in-the-dark stickers.

Workshops begin at 10 a.m.

Free: 'Ghosts Of The Arch Grounds' Oct. 14

A ranger will lead a twilight walking tour entitled “Ghosts of the Arch Grounds” as part of the Gateway to the Stars series at the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, aka Gateway Arch.

The free event, followed by free telescope viewing on the Arch grounds led by volunteers from the  St. Louis Astronomical Society, will be held from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Oct. 14, 2011.

The Gateway to the Stars series is part of the The Core of Discovery, a confederation of downtown St. Louis family-friendly attractions district anchored by the Gateway Arch and Citygarden.
