Free: Opening Reception for Contemporary Narrative at Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles

The Foundry Art Centre will hold a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday for the opening of Contemporary Narrative.

According to the Foundry’s website: “A fiction novelist writes to create a world where the reader envisions the events within their mind; in Contemporary Narrative, these artists visually convey their own stories to the viewer.”

The exhibit will be on display until July 29, 2011 in Gallery I & II.

The reception is free and open to the public.

Free: Take Dad To St. Louis' Magic House On Father's Day

In celebration of their special day, The Magic House, St. Louis Children’s Museum, is admitting Dads free of charge on Sunday, June 19.

The Magic House is open 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Sunday. It is located at 516 S. Kirkwood Road, Kirkwood.

Children can wish their father a very happy Father’s Day by creating a keepsake card just for dad. Card making will take place in the Expericenter.

Free: 'Think Floyd' Concert Tonight in Alton, Ill.

What says “summer” more than a free concert under the stars?  And when it’s on the waterfront, so much the better.

Alton‘s Free Summer Concert Series at the Riverfront Amphitheater kicks off tonight, June 16, 2011, with Think Floyd.

The Chicago Pink Floyd cover band will be doing a new show recreating the “Dark Side of the Moon.”

Here’s what’s on tap for the rest of the season at the Alton Summer Concert Series:

July 21, Nashville singing artist Andrea Young and American Idol standout Kady Malloy perform their signature brand of rockin’ country.

Aug. 18, Stones in Love, a Journey tribute band, takes the stage with Contagious, a tribute to Bon Jovi.

Sept. 15, the season winds to a close with Grammy Award nominee Shemekia Copeland, straight from the Chicago blues scene, along with the Bottom’s Up Blues Gang.
